LGV Category C1 licence

Pass your Category C1 licence test, and you can drive any rigid vehicle between 3.5 tonnes and 7.5 tonnes, like ambulances, removal vans and horseboxes

If you are over 18 and want to gain your Category C1 licence, you’ll find our whole approach to LGV driver training is reassuringly different to other providers.

What to expect when you train with Teesside LGV

At Teesside LGV, we set the standard for LGV training – it’s why our pass rates are so high and why you’ll feel confident and supported throughout your Category C1 training journey.  You can expect:

  • Exceptional 1-to-1 instruction from our own team of highly qualified driver trainers – the only NRI-approved examination centre (National Register of Instructors) in Teesside
  • A whole host of extra driving tips and advice that prepare you for the real world of LGV driving – helping to ensure your ongoing journey as a truck or van driver is safer, easier and more enjoyable
  • Fantastic facilities.  We are the only LGV Driver Training Centre in Teesside with our own DVSA-approved on-site test centre.  Being able to learn on your actual test course means you’ll feel more confident and familiar with its challenges on test day.  And with our very own full fleet of predominantly Scania lorries, you’ll always be driving true-to-life vehicles.

How long is the LGV Category C1 Course?

This is typically an 8-hour course, but shorter and longer courses can also be arranged depending on your individual needs.  We can also offer flexible training, giving you the option to spread your training over a combination of full and half days, should you prefer.

Course content

Our DVSA-approved, LGV Category C1 driver course includes both theory and practical stages (covering all aspects) including:

  • manoeuvring and reversing
  • vehicle safety
  • loading and unloading in line with safety regulations
  • your final assessment

7.5 tonne and Trailer course (Category C1+E)

If you’ve already passed your Category C1 test and want to tow an additional trailer weighing over 750kgs, you also need to take a further C1+E Trailer Test.  This extra course is perfect if you want to tow more weight without having to retrain on a larger vehicle.
