Company Director
Kirk is always at the helm, ready to steer us toward the next exciting project, supporting all staff along the way – he loves a day/night out or both! He loves to organise race days, black tie events and city visits so the team can all get together socially.
My journey in the transport industry began in 1999 as a long-distance lorry driver. In 2004, alongside my father, Colin McGrath, and my mother, Barbara McGrath, we founded Teesside LGV Training Ltd. What started as a family-run business has grown into a trusted and respected name in driver training across the region.
I take great pride in the continued growth and success of TLGV. We’ve built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality training, maintaining excellent pass rates, and helping individuals and businesses alike achieve their goals.
Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with some fantastic people and forming lasting relationships with clients across the industry. I’m excited to see how TLGV continues to evolve, and I’m committed to ensuring we keep providing the highest standards of training and support well into the future.
Senior Instructor
Dave joined TLGV in July 2009 with his father Colin McGrath and brother Kirk McGrath, he has gained valuable experience over the years in previous roles as an LGV Driver and then as a Transport Manager, to then join Teesside LGV Training where he has gained an impressive skillset of teaching, training, auditing and consultancy.
Dave loves to entertain his fellow colleagues – he will literally do anything to get the laughs – just don’t ask him about custard creams!
I have been a member of the TLGV Team for over 15 years and continue to develop my skills and education. It is an excellent establishment to work for. I love my role as its unique, I am able to meet and develop great relationships. One of the most rewarding feelings is helping a person achieve their goals or help a business to make that next crucial step to progress. I am passionate about delivering the very best in training and services. I am so proud to be heavily involved in the future growth of Teesside LGV Training, the company is always setting the standards and looking to develop and improve.
Office Manager
Sue joined the team in September 2015, bringing with her valuable experience from a post office background. She’s now responsible for managing customer contracts and ensuring that all of our accreditations and qualifications are kept up to date and up to scratch!
Sue is the office Manager by title but the real magic happens when she is designing birthday cakes and ensuring that everyone gets a birthday celebration!
I really enjoy being part of a team that’s so dedicated to delivering an excellent customer experience. I always know that our customers are going to get the highest standard of training, no matter what course they choose. It’s also incredibly rewarding to receive such positive feedback for the whole team—it’s a real testament to the hard work we all put in.
Instructor
Chris joined the TLGV team in 2021, he started out in the army at 18, then spent over 30 years driving trucks all over Europe and North America. After a career on the road, he brought his skills and experience to Teesside LGV, where he now helps train the next generation of drivers.
Chris is hard on the outside but fluffy on the inside – although he loves travelling to work on his motorbike, he absolutely loves watching Strictly Come Dancing and practicing his dance moves on work nights out.
What I enjoy most about working at TLGV is the friendly, family-like atmosphere, the team work closely together and support each other both on the job and outside of work too.
Instructor, Assessor, Train the Trainer
John joined the TLGV team in 2013, he has previously been an instructor, running his own successful car driving school for 12 years before joining Teesside LGV. He takes real pride in his work and in helping students reach high standards, always staying flexible and adapting to the ever-changing demands of the training world.
John is known as the work magpie, if anything is missing, John will always know it’s whereabouts!
What I like most about being part of TLGV is the strong team spirit and hardworking attitude, everyone pulls together, celebrates each other’s successes, and supports the students every step of the way. The friendly banter and genuine care across the team make it a great place to be.
Instructor, CPC/ADR Tutor
Martin became part of the TLGV team in January 2019, bringing with him a wealth of experience from a long career in instruction—both during his time in the military and later with the Department of Transport. Now, as an LGV instructor and tutor, he continues to share his knowledge and skills with the next generation of drivers.
Marty is known by colleagues as “tech” for the way he surprises us with his lack of expertise when new technology is introduced!
“I really enjoy the environment here—it’s supportive, engaging, and no two days are the same. One of the most rewarding parts of the job is guiding students through the entire learning journey, from day one right through to qualification. It’s a challenge, but a fulfilling one. Working at TLGV feels like being part of a family, and that sense of community really comes through in the way the team supports each other and our learners.”
Auditor and Driver trainer
I have cultivated an extensive background within the logistics and transport sectors, continuously developing my professional expertise while consistently upholding the highest standards of quality and performance. I take pride in my ability to effectively impart knowledge in a professional and approachable manner, achieving commendable pass rates with candidates.
Calm on the outside, thrill seeker on the inside – that’s Mick!
I am delighted to have recently rejoined Teesside LGV Training, having previously collaborated with the organisation as a subcontractor from 2021 to 2023. My decision to return to this well-regarded company is driven by my respect for their unwavering standards, their dedication to quality, and the family-run culture that defines their ethos. My alignment with their principles and my appreciation for the collaborative environment they foster reaffirm my enthusiasm to play a role in their continued success.
Instructor
Jamie joined the TLGV team in November 2024 following 16 years of service in the army, where he gained significant experience teaching on a variety of military vehicles. His background brings valuable insight, discipline, and a wealth of knowledge to the training environment.
Calm, collected, 93% caffeine, Zen on the outside, espresso on the inside!
I like the team cohesion and the great work/life balance. Everyone helps each other out when needed and I enjoy the variety of training
Business Administrator
Rhiann has been with TLGV since May 2023 and has recently successfully completed her Level 3 Business Admin apprenticeship.
Rhiann is in charge of the weekly course planner and allocating the work to instructors – she is feared by all of them!
What I love most about working at Teesside LGV Training is the supportive and approachable nature of our close-knit team. It is so rewarding to witness individuals develop and advance in their careers. It’s great being part of a team that consistently receives such positive feedback from our customers.
Business Administrator
Elena has been with TLGV since Feb 2017, she started as a level 3 business admin and is now the go to person in the office for the answer to anything relating to the business – hence her office nick name of Chaser!
My favourite thing about working at Teesside LGV is the rewarding feeling of seeing our customers achieve their goals from dealing with them from their first interaction with us, to them getting the results they need to better their life and career. I have loved watching the business grow and develop over the years and am very proud to be part of the TLGV family!
Chief Cuddler
The Dogue de Bordeaux, calm, quiet and the offices’ chief cuddler, she is here for the fuss- not for the deadlines!
